New webcam! Logitech QuickCam® Ultra Vision

Four days ago, I was surfing the amazon website to look for any gadgets that is worthy to buy. In the same time, I was looking for a webcam because I was thinking that I might use it to communicate with my family members without calling them. At first I was thinking to buy creative webcam, so I look in creative website and found this "Creative Live! Cam Optia AF". The stylish design and the 2 megapixel sensor captured my interest in this model. However, most of the reviews said that this webcam does not really worth the price it offer. The best feature is the parental locking system but I don't really need this feature anyway. So, I start to look for other brand and I think logitech is not bad.

From logitech website, I found this webcam QuickCam® Ultra Vision. Most reviews said this product is really worth the price and it also has a stylish design, comparable with creative webcam. This webcam used 5 lens-system or what they said as precision glass lens which can offer twice the image clarity compared to other webcams. It has a true 1.3 megapixel sensor with RightLight™ 2 Technology. I have tried this features and it really helps a lot especially when your room is too dim. It will automatically adjust the light accrodingly. Although this camera only has 1.3 megapixel but the image is still very clear. Most reviews said that any video higher than 1.3 megapixel will make the image jitter due to the bandwidth required to transmit the video. So, I still sticked with 1.3 megapixel. I also have a integrated microphone, embedded with echo and background sounds cancellation system. It also can be used as digital camera which can be used to capture up to 4 megapixel picture. With all these features, I finally made up my mind and bought this webcam from amazon for £67.70. Although it is very expensive but worth the price. However, I was surprise to found out that it is more cheaper than malaysia. I checked the lowyat webby and it cost RM559 but mine only cost about RM470.

The received package.

The stylish webcam with the usb cable...hehe.

Mount perfectly on my laptop monitor.

With this webcam, I can use it to show my handsome face to girls through messenger...hehehe... just jokking. Anyway, if you guys/girls want to chat with me using the video mode just message me. Well, that's all I want to say. c u guys in messenger.

Life is full with options.

Its been ages since I posted my blog, well i think it is nearly 2-3 months. I have been busy doing my MSc project and also doing some part time jobs. So my brain is congested with loads of things. Now, 2 weeks after I submitted my final report I am be able to continue my blog.

Life is really full with options. Each path leads you to different ways of life and change your future. Last month, my project supervisor asked me whether I am interested to study a fully funded PhD course. Well, it is quite difficult to decide because if you go on you will need to spend another 3 years in the school. If you decline, you may found difficult to find such offer in the future. However, I still accept the offer and go for it because I think it is a good opportunity to do what I am interested on. Oh right, I am interested in research and development.

Only on this tuesday, my supervisor told me that the grant is approved and I can commence my PhD study anytime soon. When I received this news I am quite happy but in the mean time I few like kinda bored to continue for another 3 years in the same university. However, I think this doesn't really matter if I am ready to go for it. Right, my research topic will be on germanium manufacturing on sapphire. This topic is very interesting because up to now no university in the UK is doing the research on topic. So it is a very good topic to talk on but in the resources will be limited.

So I am currently waiting my PhD study to start. In the mean time I am doing some part-time jobs to get some money for future europe trips...hehe. Well, that's all I can say this time. Hope I remember to post another one next week...haha.

Cheerio!

A visit to Grimsby.

Well..well, its been more than a week since my last posting. Hiew! you got me. I have been quite lazy this week to post anything since I'm got addicted with neverwinter nights 2 computer game...haha. At least I have something to say today. Nearly a month ago (9th June), I went to a place near the east coast of England. A place called Grimsby. It is a small town, em...mebbe 1/2 of Belfast I think. I went there to visit a friend of mine (Sing Ling) who is doing her pre-registration year in pharmacy.
Well, of course I will not go there alone. I went with Kelly and Huai. I can said it was a bad week for me except the time in Grimsby. Why? loads of things around me seems problems. On that week, the machines in the lab are broken and need repairs. So, I have to postphone my experiments to next week. I decided to do other experiment but the worst thing is during my experiment, the wet bench started to leak (water coming out from the bench). Luckily I did not pour any sulphuric acid during my experiment if not the lower compartment of the bench will have a hole. You know what, the concentration of sulphuric acid I used is 98%, nearly pure acid. So, I have to stop my work and wait until the bench is repaired...haiz.
The following day, I went to the airport with Kelly and Huai on the morning. We have bought the flight ticket to Manchester a month ago. We expected to board the plane at 1105am so we reached the airport at around 930am but the flight is delayed..gosh...we have to wait for nearly 4 hours (around 1330) in the airport before we get into the plane. The worst thing is we have booked the train ticket from Manchester to Grimsby and we already paid for it. Since the flight is delayed, we have to buy another ticket to Grimsby. It cost us £25.40..ouch..that's expensive. Anyway, we finally arrived at Grimsby around 6 (if I'm right). We spend 2 1/2 hours in the train.
Sing Ling and her housemate Naomi (a pastor) came to the train station and picked us to her house. That night Sing Ling cooked for us and we have a good dinner together. Since we are too tired, we sleep early that night. On the next morning, we went to a church with Naomi (on Sunday)since she is a pastor and Kelly and Sing Ling are Christians. So me and Huai follow them and go to church as well. Their worshipping style is quite the same with what I have before when I still joined Boys' Brigade. After finished with the Sunday worship all of us went back to the house and have a nice lunch, cooked by Naomi. I missed her chapati and lamb curry....yummy. Then me, Huai, Sing Ling and Kelly took a bus to Cleethorpes (seaside). Well, we did not take much pictures during this travel except at Cleethorpes.

That's Huai, Kelly and me!

Well, for a brief introduction. Huai is my good friend in Belfast and he is studying pharmacy. Kelly is the big sis..haha...just jokking. Guess what is her occupation? Accountant? Secretary? dun play play oh...she's a junior doctor...haha. Both Kelly and Sing Ling are my housemate for a month before Sing Ling move to Grimsby to do her pharmacy and Kelly move to the hospital accommodation.

That's Sing Ling and Kelly!

Those are the pictures we took at the Cleethorpes seaside. Well, quite a lot of ppl here keep looking at us, I guess there are too few chinese here. There are quite a lot of shops here and most of them sell fish n chips. I can said the cod and haddock here is quite nice and fresh compare to Belfast one which are fresh from FRIDGE..haha.

After we went back to Grimsby we spend our night playing scrabble with Naomi since she like to play scrabble. Then we went to sleep as usual. We leave Grimsby at the morning by train and then by plane of course. We stop by Manchester to have a look around but nothing much to see. I think the most famous place is Old Trafford which is at the outskirt of the city centre but we didn't go there because quite far and we still have a train to catch. Nothing much to say about Manchester, is not as good as I thought..I mean the environments. Then we came back to belfast around 9pm because our flight is delayed again...huh...dunno what to say..........glad we did not need to stay overnight at Manchester.

That's all I can say for this trip. It is a nice trip one except for the stupid delay which caused us time and money. Thanks for viewing and stay tuned until next time.....hehe..

Cheers!

Northern Ireland

Hi there! I'm back and it is time for me to post my second blog. As requested by other fellow blogger, todays topic will be on the place where I studied, lived, eat, sleep or whatever for, well 2 years and 9 months.

Right! Belfast is situated in the northern hemisphere in a country call Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is a part of the UK and Belfast is the capital city. You can found a rough figure from google's map. Click here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q.
Just beside Northern Ireland lies the Republic of Ireland. Well, I think most of the ppl will know this country. Heard of Trinity college? Guiness?. These are the landmarks for those who want to visit Dublin, the capital of Ireland. I will make a topic of Ireland later, now back to Belfast first.

Belfast , well I considered it as a small city myself. It's not really big as KL but the ppl here are really nice and friendly. They will greet you on the street even though they don't know who are you. One thing that really amazed me from KL ppl are the car drivers. They are so nice to stop and let you walk across the road even you are not on the zebra crossing. Well, if in KL I think you will definately get scolded by the driver or even get hurt..em no more comment about this.
One of the major attaractions is the Belfast City Hall in the city centre. Completed in 1906, this buliding is made from Portland Stone and is in the Classical Renaissancee style

Belfast City Hall.

Well, I got this picture from wikipedia...haha. I remembered I didn't take any picture of it even I have studied at here for so long.."pai seh". Anyway, this is the real city hall. In the summer, you can see a lot of ppl sitting around the city hall garden, enjoying sun bath and chatting around. Belfast is a really nice place to relax and a nice place for holiday but......not a good place for girls though. Why? coz not many shopping centres around the city for the girls to enjoy their time for shopping. The biggest shopping centre is only like 1/10th of midvalley, I believed. So, for any guys who like to have a trip with your girlfriend, this is a good place to save ur money...haha...well, girls no offence ah..

Now, the next place I'm going to talk about is my university. The Queen's University of Belfast is one of the tourist landmarks in Belfast. Every year around this time, a lot of tourists from all over the world will come here for holiday. Most of them are from the States. Do you know that most of the Americans origin are Irish? According to their history, a lot of Irish migrate to the states long time ago (mebbe during 18th century) to avoid famine that's happening during that time. Okay, no more history for this, let's talk about my university. Although it is not really in the top of the UK league tables but the EEE course is consider top 5 in the UK. Same goes to the pharmacy, civil engineering and medicine courses. Lots of Malaysian studying medicine and engineering PhD in this university. The main attractions is the the Lanyon Building.

QUB Lanyon Building

This building is designed by Charles Lanyon when the school was founded in 1845 and opened in 1849. Well, that's pretty old right but the buidling still stood strong as major repairments/renovations taken place over these years to preserve its native nature. Most of the tourist buses will stop by and loads of tourists will walk around and take photos. That's all I can talk about my school.
The next destination is not in city but is about 140km from the city. The Giant's Causeway, I can say is the main attraction in Northern Ireland. Situated in the north coast of Northern Ireland, this place is very nice during summer or autumn but freaking freezing during the winter. This place is famous with its hexagonal shape stones (basalt columns) along the coast, and also being declared as World Heritage by UNESCO.

Hexagonal shape stones

One of the main sites

The top view of the causeway

From the info board, it said that the formation of these stones is cause by lava around 60 million years ago. Anyone that interested can go to this website to have a look on the history. Well, it also have two different legends. Guess what, the name of this place is named after the legends. You know, Giant's Causeway. Get interested? click here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant%27s_Causeway.

Wow, I think that's too much info for you guys or girls who read this blog. Well, actually I'm quite lazy to continue. I'll add some more in due course but at the minutes that's all I can say about Northern Ireland. Hope you will get a glimpsed of this nice and facinating country. Finally, thanks for spending your time reading my blogs.

Cheers!
